Record-Breaking Sales
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Shiv, the newest installment in the Ace Combat series by Bandai Namco Entertainment, has reached over 1 million sales worldwide in its first week, setting a new record for the franchise.
The official announcement on October 9 confirmed that the game, which was released on October 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), achieved this milestone rapidly. An early access period for Deluxe Edition purchasers began on September 29.
This milestone is attributed to both the existing fanbase and new players joining the series. Ace Combat 8 is the first numbered title released in seven years since Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown in 2019. The game is set in the fictional universe of 'Strangereal,' depicting a war between the Federal Central Union (FCU) and the Sotoa Republic in 2029. Players take on the role of a legendary ace, continuing the legacy of 'Wings of Shiv' amidst a crisis.
Technically, the game utilizes Bandai Namco's custom 'Cloudly' engine, allowing for a massive 10,000 km² sky and multi-layered clouds. It boasts the largest multiplayer experience in the series, with support for up to 100 players in online lobbies and cooperative content.
As of January this year, Ace Combat 7's global sales had surpassed 7 million units. With the sales from Ace Combat 8, the total shipments for the Ace Combat series have exceeded 22 million units since its inception in 1995, known for its blend of arcade-style air combat and unique storytelling.
