As Grand Theft Auto 6 approaches its release in two weeks, pre-orders have surged to nearly eight million, generating approximately $751 million in revenue. The PlayStation 5 version dominates, accounting for 74% of the pre-orders.
Pre-Order Success for GTA 6
According to recent data from Sensor Tower, pre-orders for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 have reached 7.71 million units, resulting in an estimated gross revenue of $751 million. The title is set to launch in just two weeks, and the anticipation is reflected in the strong pre-order numbers.
Breakdown of Pre-Orders
- PlayStation 5: 74% of pre-orders, generating around $559 million.
- Xbox Series X|S: 26% of pre-orders, contributing approximately $192 million.
In the first week of pre-orders back in July, Newzoo estimated that GTA 6 generated $260 million globally. Notably, about 89% of pre-orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition, while the remaining 11% are for the $80 Standard Edition.
Future Sales Projections
Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, indicated that if pre-order trends continue, the game could surpass 40 million units sold at launch. A more conservative estimate suggests it may reach around 25 million units, potentially translating to $2 billion in sales by launch day.
In comparison, GTA 6's pre-orders are significantly ahead of 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, at 148% more at this point in time. Analysts are predicting that GTA 6 could sell between 30 to over 50 million units upon release.
