Krafton Halts Development of PUBG: Black Budget
Written with artificial intelligence.
Krafton has officially discontinued the development of its extraction shooter, PUBG: Black Budget. The decision comes after the development team concluded that the game could not meet player expectations based on its current direction.
Development Cessation
Krafton has announced the termination of the development of PUBG: Black Budget, an extraction shooter that was in the works. The development team shared the news on their Steam page, stating that after reviewing the project's status and future direction, they determined it would not be able to provide a satisfying long-term experience for players.
Game Concept
PUBG: Black Budget was designed as a first-person tactical extraction shooter set on a mysterious island called Coli. Players would assume the role of a skilled mercenary tasked with securing key technologies from abandoned research facilities while navigating through strange phenomena known as 'Anomalies.' The game was also set to explore the narrative surrounding the SAPIENS project, a central element of the Black Budget operation.
Testing Phases
Previously, the development team conducted two closed beta tests via Steam to gauge market reaction. The first test ran from December 12 to 14 and December 19 to 21, 2025, targeting players from Asia, North America, and Europe. The second test took place over four days starting June 26, 2026.
Future Prospects
A Krafton representative emphasized that player experience remains a top priority for PUBG Studios. They expressed a commitment to using insights gained from this project to continue exploring new gameplay experiences in future developments.
