GTA 6 Enhances Weather Systems with Hurricanes and More
Written with artificial intelligence.

Rockstar Games has revamped its weather systems for GTA 6, introducing features such as hurricanes, rainbows, and dynamic cloudscapes. The game promises a more immersive experience with localized and persistent weather effects.
Enhanced Weather Systems
In a significant upgrade from previous titles, Rockstar Games has re-engineered the weather system for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), aiming to deliver an unprecedented sense of scale and realism. According to Owen Shepherd, vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar, the new system will include features like hurricanes, rainbows, and detailed cloud formations.
Dynamic Weather Effects
GTA 6 will feature fully dynamic cloudscapes that change across the game world, allowing players to experience varying weather conditions. For example, while players might stay dry in one location, they could observe rain showers occurring elsewhere, complete with realistic aftereffects like rain-soaked streets and rainbows once the storms pass. Shepherd emphasized that the weather will feel more localized and persistent, enhancing the game's immersive quality.
Visual and Gameplay Impact
While Rockstar has shared impressive visual details about the weather, such as heavy clouds and strong winds, the studio has yet to clarify how these conditions will affect gameplay mechanics. Questions remain regarding the impact of wet roads on vehicle handling, or how flying in a hurricane might influence gameplay.
Release Date and Additional Features
GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Alongside the weather enhancements, the game will feature over 170 animal species, including diverse birds and mammals, as well as underwater diving experiences. Players can also expect to encounter discoverable and Legendary animals, similar to those in Red Dead Redemption 2.
