Capcom Aims to Integrate AI into Game Development Engine

Capcom has announced its intention to integrate artificial intelligence into its game development processes, allowing employees to focus more on creative tasks. The company highlighted its REX Project, which seeks to address current production challenges, during the Capcom Open Conference RE:2026.

Capcom's Vision for AI Integration

In June, Capcom informed investors about its plans to leverage artificial intelligence in game production to free up employees for more creative work. Recently, the company elaborated on its goals regarding its game engine and AI during the Capcom Open Conference RE:2026.

Satoshi Ishida, a programmer at Capcom, discussed the REX Project, which aims to develop solutions for significant current challenges in game development. Key issues include the large size and scale of games that necessitate numerous versions and adjustments, which can slow production. Additionally, the RE Engine is utilized by over 2,000 people, requiring multilingual support and enhanced accessibility. A critical goal is to ensure AI is integrated into the production process rather than treated as an afterthought.

To achieve these objectives, Capcom is developing new systems within the REX Project to establish new standards for data processing across formats. Improvements to the engine's interface are also underway, featuring tools designed to assist workers. One notable initiative is RE:Log, which automatically adjusts the language of text based on user identification.

Ishida also introduced RE:Flows, a tool that automatically converts visual script code into standard coding. This exemplifies Capcom's commitment to using AI to assist humans with repetitive tasks throughout game production, such as creating or modifying code, ultimately allowing for more time dedicated to creativity.
